In Memoriam: Charles Latimer (1928–2026)

The North Carolina Presbyterian Historical Society mourns the passing of Charles Latimer, who served as Treasurer of the Society for fifteen years until the early 2000s. Charles also wrote a history of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1996.

Charles Latimer (May 18, 1928 – January 20, 2026)

Cary, North Carolina — Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Louise.

Charles is survived by sons Keith, Kevin and wife Caron; sister Joanne, her children, Jim, Nancy, Dianne, Beverly; niece Susan, husband Bob, their children Bill and Jill; nephew David; Charles’ present wife JoAnne Kistler, her daughters Barbara, Janice, Mary Bea, plus 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Pennsylvania native, WWII veteran, University of Pennsylvania graduate. Charles began his career at York Corporation; he retired from IBM in 1990.

A Master Mason of Rose Lodge, York, PA; Presbyterian Church, Deacon, Elder and Trustee; elected selectman, Darien, CT; volunteer adjunct professor, Livingston College, and Duke University; Charles was also a Master Gardener, avid outdoorsman, and community volunteer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Hospice of Wake County, or White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, NC.

A memorial service will be held February 26, 2:00 pm, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC.
